Munich Lake House

This project involved the design and construction of a new home for a family friend with three sons, situated in the picturesque lake district southwest of Munich. The design was carefully crafted to meet the needs of the family while adhering to the region’s strict local building regulations, which imposed constraints on building volume, roof pitch, and exterior finishes.

The house was constructed using pre-manufactured wood panel elements, chosen for their sustainability and energy efficiency. The home is heated by a modern wood pellet system, ensuring both ecological and economical operation.

The first floor features an open-plan living space with a living room, dining area, and kitchen that seamlessly connect. Large patio doors open onto the surrounding garden and outdoor patios, enhancing the indoor-outdoor connection and creating a harmonious blend with the natural surroundings. Also on this floor is a private en-suite bedroom suite with its own separate entrance, providing a flexible, self-contained space for guests or family members.

On the second floor, the layout includes four bedrooms and two bathrooms, with careful attention given to distributing space equally among the three sons, ensuring fairness and comfort for each. The design thoughtfully balances privacy with communal living areas, making it an ideal home for the growing family.

This project successfully navigated local building restrictions and created a functional, beautiful, and energy-efficient family home that integrates well with the natural beauty of the lake district.
